About DMIMS (Deemed To Be University)

On May 24, 2005, the University Grants Commission accorded Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences the title of Deemed to be University . The DMIMS(DU) opted for audit by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council shortly after receiving prestige of Deemed to be University, and a peer team from NAAC monitored the DMIMS(DU) campus and constituent units in March 2007, as a result of which the DMIMS (Deemed to be University) was granted with 'A' Grade. Following that, in May 2013, the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, recognized Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (Deemed to be University) 'A' Grade status among the country's Deemed Universities.

In March 2013, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) reaccredited the institution with 'Grade A' for the period of five years. Following that, in the third cycle of re-accreditation by the NAAC, the University was re-accredited with a 'A+' Grade, making it the only Health Sciences University in the County to have such a distinction, in the third cycle of its re-accreditation, in the year 2017. As a result, it was classified as a Category - I Deemed to be University by the University Grants Commission (Categorisation of Universities alone) for the award of graded autonomy in 2018. It has also been included to the list of Deemed to be Universities under Section 12 B of the UGC Act of 1956. In addition, the University got the esteemed Dr. B.C. Roy Award for Institutional Research.

The component Units of Deemed University are housed on a 125-acre campus at Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha, some 80 kilometres from Nagpur, Maharashtra, India, which serves as the country's geographic centre. It is nestled away from the urban and street life in a self-sustaining compound with an excellent academic ambience, amidst tranquil surroundings. It is well connected by road, train, and air (through Nagpur) to all major cities in India and around the world.
